Course Synopsis

This course will look at the nursing care involved with trauma patients, including initial management of bite wounds, road traffic accidents and neurological injury. The course will review analgesia, fluid therapy, diagnostics and therapeutic interventions as well as commonly performed procedures for trauma patients, including the placement of feeding tubes, thoracostomy tubes etc.

 

Specific areas to be covered

Review of the approach to traumatised and injured patients

Stabilisation techniques - initial therapy, venous access and analgesia
Review of current thinking on head trauma patients and the prevention of secondary brain injury
