Course synopsis
Through a combination of theory and patient based discussion, this course will review and update delegates on the topic of clinical nutrition of dogs and cats. An emphasis will be placed on the importance of the nurse's role in providing supportive care in this key area of clinical work. The course is targeted at qualified veterinary nurses who would like to develop their knowledge of clinical nutrition and nutrition-related disease.
Specific areas to be covered
The relationship between diet and disease, in particular the role of nutrition in modifying, treating and managing disease
Identification of patients in need of nutritional support
Formulating and applying a nutritional plan for hospitalised patients
Calculating nutritional needs
Assisted feeding techniques
Advising clients on how to institute correct feeding programmes
